The Case of the Vanishing Heirloom Part 2: Hidden Secrets

Detective Evelyn Greene continued her investigation into the Worthington estate. Her first step was to delve into the backgrounds of the suspects: Lady Eleanor, Sir Thomas, and Margaret.

Lady Eleanor appeared genuinely distressed, but Evelyn knew better than to take emotions at face value. Sir Thomas's erratic behavior was suspicious, and Margaret’s anxiety seemed to suggest she knew more than she was letting on.

Evelyn decided to search Sir Thomas's study. The room was meticulously organized, but something caught her eye—a book slightly out of place on the bookshelf.

Pulling it out revealed a hidden compartment with a small, ornate box. Inside the box was a set of old letters, some of which were addressed to Sir Thomas from a mysterious sender. The letters spoke of financial troubles and a desperate need for money.

Next, Evelyn spoke with Margaret in private. The maid was visibly shaken and struggled to maintain her composure.

After some gentle prodding, she revealed that she had overheard a heated argument between Sir Thomas and Lady Eleanor earlier in the week. Sir Thomas had been adamant about needing money, which seemed to align with the contents of the letters.

Margaret also mentioned a strange visitor who had come to the estate a few days before the gala, someone who had never been introduced. Evelyn's suspicion grew that this visitor might hold the key to unraveling the mystery.

As Evelyn pieced together the clues, she realized the case was more intricate than she initially thought. The Worthington Sapphire was more than just an heirloom—it was a focal point of deeper familial and financial issues.
