Mazda CX-5 Surpasses One Million Units Milestone

Mazda Motor Company announced that the Mazda CX-5 reached a significant production milestone, surpassing one million units by the end of April 2015.

This achievement comes just three years and five months after production began in November 2011, making the CX-5 the second fastest Mazda model to hit the one-million-unit mark, following closely behind the Mazda3 (also known as Mazda Axela in Japan).

The production of the CX-5, which was Mazda's first model to incorporate the new-generation SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY and KODO-Soul of Motion design, initially began at the Ujina Plant in Hiroshima.

Since then, the manufacturing of the CX-5 has expanded globally, with production facilities now in operation at Changan Mazda Automobile in China, Mazda Sollers Manufacturing Rus in Russia, Mazda Malaysia Sdn., Bhd., in Malaysia, and Vina Mazda Automobile Manufacturing in Vietnam.

Launched in February 2012, the Mazda CX-5 quickly established itself as a pivotal model within Mazda's global lineup, targeting the rapidly growing crossover SUV market.

The vehicle has received widespread acclaim, winning over 60 awards globally, including the prestigious Car of the Year Japan for 2012-2013.

The CX-5's popularity is particularly notable in Japan, where it was the top-selling SUV in both 2012 and 2013.

Masashi Otsuka, Program Manager of the CX-5, expressed his excitement over the vehicle’s rapid success.

"I am delighted to see the CX-5 reach the one-million-unit mark in only three years and five months," Otsuka remarked.

He went on to thank customers worldwide who have supported and appreciated the CX-5, emphasizing Mazda's commitment to continually improving the model.

Otsuka concluded by expressing optimism that the CX-5 will continue to attract customers with active lifestyles and broaden its appeal in the future.

The Mazda CX-5's swift rise to this milestone underscores its importance as a core model for Mazda, reflecting the company’s success in producing vehicles that resonate with consumers globally.

As Mazda continues to evolve its offerings, the CX-5 is poised to remain a key player in the competitive crossover SUV segment.
