Once upon a time, there was a boy named Sam who lived in a
small village by the sea. Every morning, Sam liked to walk on the beach to see
the sunrise and pick up seashells. One day, after a big storm, Sam saw that the
beach was covered with thousands of starfish.
Sam started picking up the starfish one by one and throwing
them back into the sea. An old man saw him and came over, looking confused.
"Why are you throwing the starfish back? There are so
many. You can't save them all. What difference does it make?" the old man
asked.
Sam listened, then picked up another starfish and gently
tossed it into the waves. "It made a difference to that one," he said
with a smile.
The old man thought for a moment, then smiled. He bent down,
picked up a starfish, and threw it back into the sea. Soon, other villagers who
were watching joined in, each helping to return the starfish to the water.
By the end of the day, Sam and the villagers had saved many
starfish. What seemed like an impossible job became possible because everyone
did small, kind actions.
The moral of the story is: Even small actions can make a big
difference. Never think your efforts are too small to matter.
