Once upon a time, in a small village, there was a shepherd boy who tended his flock of sheep at the foot of a mountain. The boy was a lively and playful character, often feeling bored and looking for some excitement.
One day, to amuse himself, the boy decided to play a trick
on the villagers. He ran towards the village shouting at the top of his voice,
"Wolf! Wolf! A wolf is attacking the sheep!"
Hearing his cries, the villagers dropped their tasks and
rushed to help the boy protect his flock. But when they arrived, they found no
wolf. The boy laughed at the sight of their worried faces and admitted that he
had fooled them. The villagers were annoyed and warned the boy not to cry wolf
when there was no danger.
A few days later, the boy played the same trick again,
crying out, "Wolf! Wolf!" Once more, the villagers ran to his aid,
only to find themselves deceived again. They scolded the boy for his mischief
and returned to the village, frustrated.
Not long after, a real wolf did come into the pasture. This
time, the boy genuinely screamed in terror, "Wolf! Wolf! Please help! A
wolf is attacking the sheep!" But the villagers, remembering his previous
false alarms, thought he was trying to fool them again and did not respond to
his cries.
The wolf attacked the flock, scattering the sheep in all
directions and causing great loss to the boy and his family. The boy realized
his mistake and felt deep remorse for his dishonesty.
Moral of the story:
Liars are not believed even when they tell the truth.
